چکیده

CEB Biofilm Group In biological denitrification of wastewater nitrate (NO3 -) or nitrite (NO2 -) are converted into nitrogen gas (N2), in the absence of dissolved oxygen (DO) or under limited DO concentrations. A rotating biological contactor (RBC) is an attached growth bioreactor, that constitutes a very unique and superior alternative technology for carbon oxidation, phosphorus removal, nitrification and denitrification. Although in the last decade RBCs tightly closed to avoid air entrance have started to be used for denitrification, few studies have still been conducted with anoxic RBCs.

Effect of Dissolved Oxygen and Chemical Oxygen Demand to Nitrogen Ratios on the Partial Nitrification/Denitrification Process in Moving bed Biofilm Reactors

Partial nitrification was reported to be technically feasible and economically favorable, especially for wastewaterwith high ammonium concentration or low C/N ratio. In this study, the effect of dissolved oxygen (DO)and influent ratio of chemical oxygen demand to nitrogen (COD/N) ratio on biological nitrogen removal fromsynthetic wastewater was investigated. Experiments were c...

Kinetic modeling of carbon and nutrients removal in an integrated rotating biological contactor-activated sludge system

In this study, kinetics of biological carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorous removal from a synthetic wastewater in an integrated rotating biological contactoractivated sludge system was investigated. The experimental data obtained from varying four significant independent factors viz., hydraulic retention time, chemical oxygen demand for nitrogen to phosphorus ratio, internal recirculation from aer...

Denitrification in a closed rotating biological contactor: effect of disk submergence

Several studies have employed rotating biological contactors (RBCs) for nitrogen removal. However, partially submersed disks are used for nitrification, while completely submersed disks are used for denitrification. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of disk submergence in the performance of rotating biological contactors, in terms of the denitrification process. Two RBCs...

Post-anoxic denitrification driven by PHA and glycogen within enhanced biological phosphorus removal.

The objective of this research was to interrogate and develop a better understanding for a process to achieve post-anoxic denitrification without exogenous carbon augmentation within enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR). Sequencing batch reactors fed real wastewater and seeded with mixed microbial consortia were operated under variable anaerobic-aerobic-anoxic and organic carbon loadin...

Enhancement of post-anoxic denitrification for biological nutrient removal: effect of different carbon sources.

Previous research has demonstrated that post-anoxic denitrification and biological nutrient removal could be achieved in the oxic/anoxic/extended-idle wastewater treatment regime. This study further investigated the effect of different carbon sources on post-anoxic denitrification and biological nutrient removal. Acetate, propionate (volatile fatty acids (VFAs)), glucose (carbohydrate), methano...
